1. Core feature processing
When you start a capture or area recording, SnipHalo reads the screen area you select after macOS grants Screen & System Audio Recording permission. System audio is included only when you enable it. The current version does not capture microphone audio.
Capture, annotation, video encoding, clipboard operations, and Apple Vision text recognition run on your Mac by default. We do not receive your screenshots, recordings, or OCR results.
2. On-device translation and language resources
When you choose Apple on-device translation, macOS performs the translation. Required language resources may be downloaded and managed by the system. SnipHalo does not operate a translation server or receive translated text through its own servers.
Language resource downloads and availability are governed by Apple’s software and privacy terms.
3. Optional custom translation API
Only when you select Custom API, enter an HTTP(S) endpoint, and request a translation does SnipHalo send recognized text, a source-language marker, your target language, and configured authorization information to the service you chose. SnipHalo does not send the full screenshot for translation.
The service you choose processes information under its own privacy policy and terms. Configure only services you trust.
4. Local settings and Keychain
Language, global shortcut, translation mode, endpoint, and target language are stored on your device. A custom translation API key is stored in macOS Keychain and is not automatically sent to us.
5. Data we do not collect
The current version has no account system, ads, behavioral analytics, tracking, or crash telemetry. We do not sell personal information or use your captures, recordings, or recognized text for advertising or model training.
6. System permissions
- Screen & System Audio Recording: reads the screen area you select and records system audio only when enabled.
- Accessibility: generates scroll events only when you explicitly use automatic scrolling capture.
- File access: writes only to a location you select through the macOS save panel.
- Network: supports system-managed language resources and a custom translation service that you configure and invoke.
7. Retention, deletion, and revoking access
Core content is processed on-device, so we do not retain screenshots, recordings, or OCR results on a server. You can delete saved files, clear translation settings, or revoke permissions in System Settings.
A macOS Keychain item may remain after uninstalling. Clear the API key in SnipHalo or remove the item with Keychain Access.
8. Children and policy changes
SnipHalo is not directed specifically at children and does not knowingly collect children’s personal information. If features or data handling change, we will update this policy and the relevant App Store privacy information.
9. Contact
